No, it’s not. When MLK said that you should judge people by their content of character, not their color of their skin, that’s what he meant. When you’re using identity politics, you’re still judging them by the color of the skin, albeit in a “nice” way, at least in the own minds of the liberal elite. But the working-class, even working-class minorities, will still feel left out if they don’t fit into whatever predefined category that happens to be popular at the time. That’s really the problem, and that’s why the Democrats will continue to lose elections over and over if they don’t do something about it.
