I’d imagine this style of notation could get extremely complicated when you put more notes into it. Playing 16th notes in Guitar Hero isn’t exactly easy, either — takes a lot of practice, just like anything else, and looking where the little dots are can get pretty overwhelming even if everything is clearly mapped out.

You could probably get around the space issues using a screen notation of sorts but I don’t think that making the “leap” from your notation to traditional notation after they get past the beginner stage is going to be very easy. In fact, they could get *more* confused after having gotten used to thinking of music in a certain way, so that’s something to consider as well. You may very well have to replace the entire notation system in order to get people to use it.

I’m classically trained but I’m all for people experimenting with new ideas if it’ll make things easier…it’s all a learning process, after all. Have you tried getting a few pianists to use your system directly and see how they react and respond? Seems like the best course of action to take would be to do some prototype testing and see what kinds of feedback you can get.
