I think that you might be conflating elections with the utopian vision of a heiarchy-less society — democracies shift power from one regime to another, not eliminate the act of power entirely. Kind of the whole point of holding elections is to avoid bloodshed during transitions of power. Violent revolt is both expensive as it’s tragic, so there’s a good reasons why “civilized” societies tend to move toward these systems in the long run.

Is it a perfect system? No. But it’s better than everything else that’s been tried, so far, like that famous guy once said.
